Akron, OH (May 27, 2009) – Ernest E. Pouttu, President and CEO of Harwick Standard Distribution Corporation, was presented the 2009 Dr. Frank L. Simonetti Distinguished Business Alumni Award on Friday, April 24, 2009.

The University of Akron’s College of Business Administration Alumni Association established this award in 1987 to honor successful alumni for their achievements in business and significant contributions to their communities.  The award is named for alumnus and long time professor at the College, Dr. Frank L. Simonetti.

Mr. Pouttu earned an MBA in taxation from the University of Akron in 1986. He began his professional career at Ernst & Young. Joining Harwick Standard in 1984, he previously held positions of controller, VP Finance and CFO. He is a 30-year volunteer for the Bridgestone Invitational Golf Tournament, serves as vice president of development for the Cuyahoga Youth Ballet and Akron Symphony Orchestra, and is Finance Committee Chair for the Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital Foundation. As a devoted alumnus, Pouttu currently serves as chair of The University of Akron College of Business Advancement Council and serves on the H. Kenneth Barker Center for Economic Education.

Mr. Pouttu is the second Harwick Standard President and CEO to receive this award. Roger T. Read, who received degrees from the University in both 1963 and 1966, was honored in 1989. Retiring from Harwick in 1995, Mr. Read continues his dedicated service to the greater Akron community.
